At Last — a New VISUAL-EU Research Output Has Been Published 🇪🇺📚🎉✨
I am pleased to share that my research article, “From Visibility to Visualisation: English–Polish Terminology and Resemiotisation in EU Policy Infographics,” has been published in LTD: Linguistic & Translation Dimensions, Vol. 2, No. 1 (2026), pp. 38–51 📖🌍🖥️
The study distinguishes between institutional visibility and visualisation in English–Polish EU policy infographics 🇪🇺🗣️🎨 It is based on a purpose-built corpus of 12 English-language infographic pages published by the Council of the European Union and their Polish-language counterparts 🔎📊
The analysis examines:
🔹 communicative purpose 🗨️
🔹 institutional terminology 📚
🔹 popularising reformulation ✍️
🔹 visual organisation 🎨
🔹 English–Polish translation shifts 🇬🇧🇵🇱
The findings show that most Polish pages retained the original visual structure and key numerical relations ✅📈 However, one page remained unlocalised, while three translated materials contained inconsistencies involving a date, century, or policy status ⚠️🗓️
The central conclusion is that simply making EU content visible through a Polish-language webpage does not automatically guarantee equivalent access to information 🌐❗ Effective bilingual visualisation is a quality-sensitive process of resemiotisation requiring terminological accuracy, multimodal coherence, and careful version control 🔍🧩📑
The article also proposes an auditable workflow for using EU infographics as research and teaching materials, helping students critically examine how European policies are translated, visualised, and communicated 🎓💡🇪🇺
The research was conducted within the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Module:
